Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin

Thurs 3 Aug 7.30pm

Castle Main Lawn

Illyria’s production of Jane Austen’s glorious social comedy attracted six years of sell-out audiences, touring throughout the UK and Europe garnering nationwide critical acclaim.

In a whirlwind of balls, dinners and very eligible officers, Lizzy Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy stand alone as the only sane, thoughtful people – and they hate each other! Or do they? Can she see beyond his pride, and can he overcome her prejudice, in order to achieve happiness?

If your idea of Jane Austen is stuffy costume drama then this sparkling adaptation may make you change your mind. Bring a picnic and something to sit on and have a ball as the irrepressible Illyria sharpen their claws to bring you Jane Austen at her vibrant, bitchy best!

Running time: 2hrs 20min (including 20 minute interval)

Suitable for ages 8+

Illyria was created in 1991, and ever since has delighted audiences the length and breadth of the UK, and in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, France, the United States and Canada.

Illyria has also won 4 international “Best Performance” awards and attracted numerous “5-star” and “Critics’ Choice” reviews for the lively clarity of its approach to Shakespeare’s plays, the high quality of its shows for Families and the refreshing originality of its English classics adaptations and Gilbert & Sullivan performances.

Illyria’s mission is simply stated: to create a varied programme of outstandingly enjoyable theatre and to make it available for everyone to see.
