COSI FAN TUTTE
MERRY OPERA COMPANY
We have wanted to work with The Merry Opera Company and Director John Ramster for a long time. Now we’re going to! Come and join us and experience this unique, full of joy and life production. Merry Opera never disappoint!
Playful deception meets its match in Mozart’s sparkling comic opera, reminding us that loveis rarely as simple – or as certain – as we’d like to believe. Two young officers make areckless wager. Can their fiancées remain faithful when temptation comes knocking? With amischievous plot hatched by a worldly friend, disguises, mistaken identities, and romanticentanglements spiral into a deliciously absurd tangle.
Set to some of Mozart’s most radiant and intricate music, this production by Merry Opera is sung in English (translation by Amanda Holden) by a cast of young professional opera singers directed by John Ramster. Così fan tutte blends razor-sharp wit with moments of truth and reflection in this vibrant production that proves Mozart knew the human heart all too well.
Director, John Ramster: began his career assisting Deborah Warner and Trevor Nunn at the Glyndebourne Festival. Since then, he has established an international career directing in the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Serbia, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Estonia. He was a professor at the Royal Academy of Music and is now Associate Head of Vocal Coaching at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He taught on the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House and at the National Opera Studio.
The Merry Opera Company: was founded as a charity in 2009 to tour professional productions in modern English. For opera lovers, the shows are true to the core of the original and bring fresh interpretations of classic works. For those new to opera, the shows offer an understandable, interesting and enjoyable introduction to a genre that is often perceived as difficult to get into. Merry Opera has toured across the UK and to Malaysia and the Middle East and produces one classic opera and two revivals of the staged production of Handel’s Messiah every year.
The Merry Opera is grateful to The Smew Fund and Kent Community Foundation for financial support.
